| .My Story Growing up within two cultures can bring along extra difficulties and confusement. My parents are Chinese born and I was born and raised in the Netherlands. Growing up in two cultures can have some disadvantages, for instance being confronted with the identity questions, who am I and where do I belong? What is good and what is bad? Are the projections of a culture within another culture true? On the other hand it also makes you more aware of the variety of cultures within a societies, how people of different cultures interact and things in life which shapes you into the person you are now. Like the way things in my life shaped me, eg. the environments in which I am raised, the events in my life, the products of the cultures which I came in contact with, I am now giving shape to new products. The way these products are shaped are influenced by the person (me) who has been shaped by its environment. In my case I discovered a lot of products I give shape to often have 2 sides, 2 origins or 2 inspirations which I combine in a new way so they gets a new meaning or different impact. |
I know small things in life can change a person. Of course I would like to make a big impact and change people with my products, but this goal seems to be too ambitious for now since I am still developing my own style and life philosophy. But what I can do for the time being, is to try to shape life with the everyday products I design. Little by little I try to change the environment we live in for the people who like my products and my philosophy. I would like to make people aware of the environment we live in, the space that we use and the products we use. This goes together with the fact that my designs needs to be in balance with the message that I carry out and esthetic shape. |
